Young is feted at a Grammy party where Dave Matthews pays tribute to the Canadian rocker by singing 'Rye Whiskey', 'My My, Hey Hey' and 'The Needle and the Damage Done'.

Neil Young was honored with this year's President's Merit Award from the Producers & Engineers Wing of the Recording Academy. The legendary rocker received his award during the group's seventh annual Grammy week celebration at The Village, a historic recording studio in Los Angeles, on Tuesday night, January 21.

Young was honored for his artistic creativity, philanthropic efforts and sonic integrity for a career that's spanned more than four decades. Stephen Stills, Kris Kristofferson and Jakob Dylan were among guests who attended that night's party.

"You're honoring me, you're honoring yourself," Young told the crowd. "It's not me. It's you." During his acceptance speech, Young also recalled recording his 1975 song "Like a Hurricane" at The Village.

That night, Dave Matthews made a surprise appearance, paying tribute to Young by singing the traditional "Rye Whiskey" and the Canadian rocker's "My My, Hey Hey" and "The Needle and the Damage Done".

"As a person, you're one of the most amazing people I've ever met in my life. I hope that I'm half the inspiration to people that you have been to me," Matthews told Young after the performance.
