'The X Factor (US)' Season 3 Announces Winner in Star-Studded Finale

One Direction, Mary J. Blige, Lea Michele and more make musical performances before viewers learn who among Alex and Sierra, Jeff Gutt and Carlito Olivero claims the champion title.

"The X Factor (US)" wrapped up its third season on Thursday, December 19 with a star-studded show. As three finalists Alex and Sierra, Jeff Gutt and Carlito Olivero were awaiting the final results, the likes of One Direction, Mary J. Blige, Lea Michele, Leona Lewis and Pitbull took turn to entertain the crowd with musical performances.

Halfway through the show, Mario Lopez announced that Carlito was eliminated, meaning that it's now down to Alex & Sierra and Jeff who would be the new winner of the competition. "I'm blessed, bro. I'm happy," Carlito said of finishing third. "I'm in third place, I cannot be mad!"

Alex & Sierra and Jeff later collaborated on a duet of "Love Me Again" before British/Irish boyband One Direction sang "Midnight Memories". Towards the end of the show, host Mario revealed that duo Alex & Sierra took the first place this season.

"I'm speechless," Alex said, and Sierra added, "Thanks for not making fun of my weird faces all the time." Jeff, the runner-up, said he wouldn't "give up" and planned to tour and make more music.

    Disappointed

So disappointed that Jeff Gutt did not win last night. His rendition of "O Holy Night" was incredible while Alex and Sierra were "pitchy" and flat in their final duet.
