Ron Burgundy's 'SportsCenter' Hosting Stint Canceled by ESPN

Will Ferrell

The scheduled appearance of Will Ferrell as his 'Anchorman' character has been shelved in light of State Attorney's press conference regarding sexual assault claim against Jameis Winston.

Will Ferrell's Ron Burgundy won't appear on ESPN as it had been promoted before. The fictional newsman was supposed to guest host "SportsCenter" on Thursday, December 5 at 6 P.M. ET, but the sports channel has decided to cancel it to focus on any updates on the sexual assault allegation against Jameis Winston.

"Ron Burgundy's scheduled Thurs. appearance on @SportsCenter has been cancelled in light of the potential implications of any news from the State Attorney's press conference in Fla," ESPN's director of communications David Scott announces on Twitter. "As of this time, there is no reschedule date for Ron Burgundy."

The press conference was scheduled to take place on Thursday at 2 P.M. ET. The State Attorney is expected to announce its decision whether or not to charge the Florida State quarterback on alleged sexual assault claim originally filed with the Tallahassee Police Department on December 7, 2012.

Ferrell has appeared as his "Anchorman" character on some television news programs to promote his upcoming movie "Anchorman: The Legend Continues", which is due December 18 in the U.S. Most recently, he guest anchored on KXMB-TV in Bismarck, North Dakota. He has also interviewed Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning for an ESPN The Magazine video.
