David Letterman's 'Late Show' Contract Extended Through 2015

The longest-serving late-night talk show TV host will stay on CBS for at least two more years.

CBS definitely has no intent to replace David Letterman for its weekday late-night program. The network has locked the veteran host through 2015 as both parties have agreed to a contract extension that will keep "Late Show with David Letterman" on the air for at least two more years.

"Les [Moonves] and I had a lengthy discussion, and we both agreed that I needed a little more time to fully run the show into the ground," Letterman says. CBS CEO Leslie Moonves is equally pleased with the contract extension, stating, "There is only one Dave, and we are extremely proud that he continues to call CBS 'home.' "

Letterman began his late-night hosting gig with "Late Night with David Letterman" on NBC in February 1982. He moved to CBS in 1993 after Jay Leno surprisingly took over NBC's "The Tonight Show" from Johnny Carson following Carson's retirement in 1992. At 31 years, Letterman surpassed Carson as the longest-serving late-night talk show host in TV history.

Rival network NBC, meanwhile, is gearing up for a late-night transition, with Jimmy Fallon set to replace Leno as "The Tonight Show" host on February 6, 2014. Seth Meyers will take over the "Late Night" host's seat.
