The 'Guardians of Galaxy' actor will join Vin Diesel's street racing crew, while the 'Glee' actress will share screen with Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons in the indie drama.
Movie studios are rolling out casting news for their upcoming projects. Universal adds Djimon Hounsou to the seventh installment of its street racing movie series "Fast and Furious", while Bold Films casts "Glee" star Melissa Benoist in its indie drama "Whiplash".
Hounsou will join new faces in the franchise, Ronda Rousey, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham, as well as returning cast Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Tyrese Gibson. James Wan ("Insidious") takes over the helming reign from "Fast and Furious 6" director Justin Lin. The film eyes July 11, 2014 release date.
As for Benoist, the actress who plays Marley Rose on the FOX hit musical series created by Ryan Murphy is set to star opposite "Footloose" actor Miles Teller and "Law & Order" star J.K. Simmons in the big-screen adaptation of writer-director Damien Chazelle's Sundance-winning short film of the same name.
Hounsou will next be seen in "Baggage Claim". His other next projects include "How to Train Your Dragon 2" and "Guardians of the Galaxy". Benoist, meanwhile, is filming "Glee" which is entering its fifth season. Her upcoming big-screen role is in Al Pacino and Jennifer Garner-starring drama "Imagine".
