AceShowbiz - NBCUniversal announces a major shakeup in its executive lineup. Jeff Shell, a longtime TV exec in the studio parent's company ComCast Corp., has been named a new Chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. In his new role, he will oversee worldwide operations for the motion picture group including its global theatrical and home entertainment businesses.

Ron Meyer, who has been in charge of the film and theme park operations as a COO of Universal Studios for 18 years, is transitioned to become the only Vice Chairman of NBCUniversal. His contract with the company was previously signed to expire in 2015 but now has been renewed to extend through 2017.

In his new position, Meyer will expand his scope to offer strategic guidance on all aspects of the company, while continuing to focus on the motion picture and theme park groups as well as the physical operations of the Studio in Los Angeles.

Adam Fogelson, a Chairman of Universal Pictures since October 2009, has decided to leave the company. His Co-Chairman Donna Langley has been promoted to become the sole Chairman and will now report to Shell.

"In Ron, Jeff and Donna, we have three of the most talented business and creative executives in the industry. I have no doubt their collective strengths will help us continue to maintain our momentum and drive value at the studio," says Steve Burke, Chief Executive Officer of NBCUniversal.

Shell has already relocated to Los Angeles from his base in London, where he previously oversaw NBCU's international television operations. He, along with Meyer, will continue reporting to Burke.
