With less than two weeks left before the premiere of "Dancing with the Stars" season 17, ABC unveiled the cast line-up of the show on Wednesday, September 4. Following the tradition, "DWTS" host Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke-Charvet took over "Good Morning America" for a while to announce the celebrity contestants.
Reality TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was the first to be called out that morning. She, along with Valerie Harper, Amber Riley, Elizabeth Berkley, Christina Milian and Keyshawn Johnson, was among those mentioned on previous reports of possible cast members. Leah Remini joined them, although she couldn't make it to the "GMA" studio.
Jack Osbourne, who was booted out of NBC's "Stars Earn Stripes" even before the competition began, also nabs a place on "DWTS", with actors Corbin Bleu and Brant Daugherty, comedian Bill Engvall, and Bill Nye the Science Guy rounding up the cast list.
It was then the pro dancers' turn to come out. Derek Hough, Karina Smirnoff, Peta Murgatroyd, Val Chmerkovskiy, Tristan MacManus, Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke and Tony Dovolani were the returning pros, while Emma Slater, Sharna Burgess, Tyne Stecklein and Sasha Farber will make their debut as competing pro dancers this fall.
Anna Trebunskaya, who joined the dancing competition series in 2006, was missing from the line-up. The 32-year-old professional ballroom and Latin dancer didn't return for the coming season because she's currently pregnant.
"It wasn't planned, but when it happened, I thought, 'This is perfect - I'm ready to be a mom,' " she tells Us Weekly of expecting her first child with her "very supportive" partner, whom she refuses to name. "This is something really good for me and fulfilling, and it'll give me a whole new meaning in life. I'm really looking forward to it."
"DWTS" season 17 premieres Monday, September 16 at 8 P.M. on ABC. Only one episode will air each week this season. The twelve pairs have begun rehearsals and recently posed for cast photos.
