The 'Lego House' singer says Swift actually scolded Selena Gomez for doubting her own ability to win a prize at the event.

AceShowbiz - While Taylor Swift remains mum on her F-bomb stunt at the MTV Video Music Awards, her pal Ed Sheeran stepped up to defend her. Contrary to suggestion that she took a shot at her ex Harry Styles, Sheeran claimed Swift actually swore at her best friend Selena Gomez.

According to the "Lego House" hitmaker, Swift chastised the "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress for her lack of confidence in winning the Moonman. "Selena said, 'I think Miley's gonna win [over me].' And Taylor was like, 'Shut the f*** up!' That's all that was!" Sheeran told Cosmopolitan.

Sheeran said Swift was aware that her expletive comment was misinterpreted. "Taylor was like, 'I think I messed up'," he said of his touring mate.

Swift was caught on camera dropping the foul-mouthed comment when Styles and his One Direction friends were on stage to present Best Pop Video. The prestigious trophy eventually went o Gomez despite her initial prediction that Miley Cyrus could win it.

When it was her turn to claim her own victory for Best Female Video, Swift gave a shout-out to one of her exes. While she didn't mention any name, public was quick to point at the 1D member as the camera panned to an awkward-looking Styles chewing gum.
