Benedict Cumberbatch Leaves Guillermo del Toro's 'Crimson Peak'

Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain and Charlie Hunnam remain on board the project, which will start filming in February 2014.

Having been attached since April, Benedict Cumberbatch has recently decided to exit "Crimson Peak", Legendary Pictures' upcoming horror movie that has "Pacific Rim" director Guillermo del Toro as the man behind the lens. The Hollywood Reporter adds details to the news first reported by Variety, revealing that his departure is not due to scheduling conflicts.

That leaves Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska as the remaining stars in the cast ensemble of the film which follows a woman who discovers that her husband might not be who he appears to be. The search for Cumberbatch's replacement is underway as the production is scheduled to be kicked off in February 2014.

Cumberbatch is not the first to depart from the project. Previously, Emma Stone was unable to be committed to work on this due to a conflict with Cameron Crowe's next film. Wasikowska was then quickly cast to replace her. With this, one can say that del Toro will not find it hard to get another perfect actor to fill in for the "Star Trek Into Darkness" villain.

Cumberbatch, who is currently filming "The Penguins of Madagascar", will next be seen in "The Fifth Estate", "12 Years a Slave" and "August: Osage County". He also has a voice role in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug".

He perhaps will team up with del Toro in "Frankenstein (2015)" as the Mexican filmmaker has once voiced his interest in directing the British actor in this film.
