'X-Men' Scribe David Hayter Set to Pen Adaptation of Luna Brothers' 'The Sword'

The movie, which will start shooting in early 2014, can possibly become a franchise since the graphic novel it is based on is divided into four volumes.

"The Sword (2015)" has found its screenwriter. Lakeshore Entertainment and Hopscotch Features have officially hired scribe David Hayter, whose credits include "X-Men" and "The Scorpion King", to pen the big-screen adaptation of the Luna Brothers' graphic novel of the same name.

The story centers on young paraplegic college student Dara Brighton, who is the only survivor after her father, mother and sister are murdered by three strangers who demand a particular sword. Left in the burning house, she discovers the sword which apparently can give her incredible powers. She later sets out on a journey to take revenge.

Set to start its production in early 2014, the film will be produced by Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Skip Williamson and Andrew Mason. Troy Lum of Hopscotch, meanwhile, will serve as executive producer. No director has been on board yet.

According to the press release issued on Monday, July 8, "The Sword" may likely become a franchise since the graphic novel it is based on comes in four volumes.

"David has a proven track record of bringing the multifaceted, beloved characters of graphic novels to mainstream audiences and we're excited that he'll be joining us for 'The Sword'," says Lakeshore Entertainment Chairman and CEO Rosenberg.
