The Jor-El of 'Man of Steel' is in talks to not only serve behind the lens for the Australia-set movie, but also headline it.

"The Water Diviner" could help make Russell Crowe's long-awaited dream come true. First breaking the news, Deadline reports that the New Zealand-born actor enters negotiations to make it his first directing gig and his next starring vehicle. If all deals are closed, Crowe will helm it based on the screenplay by Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios.

The story is set in 1919, revolving around an Australian father who is on a mission. The movie will follow him traveling to Turkey only to find his two sons, who are apparently missing after the battle of Gallipoli. Troy Lum and Andrew Mason from Hopscotch Features will team up with Keith Rodger to produce it, which is set to start shooting later this year in Australia and Turkey.

Crowe can now be seen on big screens in "Man of Steel". In the Zack Snyder-directed feature, he is introduced as Henry Cavill's on-screen biological dad Jor-El. Together with Cavill and Amy Adams, the father of two has led the Superman pic to the top of box office right in its first week.

His portrayal of the Krypton man also helped him earn the highest honor at Taormina Film Festival in Italy last Saturday. "This is my first time in Sicily, and you are already giving me an award. I should come here more often," the Maximus of "Gladiator" said to the audience. "I have always had a deep love for Italy, even before I became a gladiator."
