Disney Sets Two Marvel Films for 2016 and 2017, Announces New Name for 'Muppets' Sequel

A sequel to upcoming 'Planes' is confirmed under development, and Johnny Depp's 'Into the Woods' gets new release date.

Disney has announced that it currently develops two untitled Marvel films, set to be released on May 6, 2016 and May 5, 2017. Through a press release, the studio also introduces new name for "The Muppets" sequel, which previously was named "The Muppets... Again!". The James Bobin-directed film, featuring Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais, now goes by the name of "Muppets Most Wanted".

Val Kilmer's upcoming animated film "Planes", set for an August 9 release, officially gets a sequel treatment. Named "Planes: Fire and Rescue", it is scheduled to fly to theaters nationwide on July 18, 2014 in 3D. Star-studded "Into the Woods", starring Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep, is now up opposite Quvenzhane Wallis and Jamie Foxx's "Annie" on December 25, 2014.

Walt Disney biopic "Saving Mr. Banks", headlined by Tom Hanks, still retains its wide release on December 20, but will first open in limited theaters on December 13. As for Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner's "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day", it is now set for an October 10, 2014 wide release.

Sci-fi "Tomorrowland" with George Clooney as leading man is now up for a December 12, 2014 wide release, a week ahead of its original December 19 date.

Finally, "The Hundred-Foot Journey" from producers Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey is slated to open across the nation on August 8, 2014.
