Motorcycle customizer Jesse James had a bad day at work. He accidentally chopped off his right pinky finger when manning a machine in his shop in Texas on Tuesday, May 21. The 44-year-old TV personality then called in to TMZ to chat about the incident when waiting at a local hospital for a surgery.
He said, "I was working in the shop today and my glove got caught into one of the machines and just smashed it, took my finger off." The husband of drag racer Alexis DeJoria continued that he didn't even realize he lost the tip of his pinky finger until he got a few steps away and saw his bloodied hand.
"My wife and I were on the floor looking around for the piece of finger so we could put it on ice and haul a** to the hospital," James recalled. Unfortunately, the severed part of the finger couldn't be re-attached and he would undergo a surgery to seal the wound.
"They [doctors] said it's gone. They're gonna take a skin graft off the chunk of finger and just sew it back on," James said. He apparently didn't take the accident too seriously as he joked, "I asked them if they could sew my fingerprint on upside-down, just for fun."
Just before his surgery, James showed the doctors how tough he was. He added, "They're totally trying to give me morphine, and I'm like, 'No, I'm fine, I'm cool. I'm all right. I can just take the pain.' "
James also took to Instagram to share some disturbing pictures of his mangled finger. Humorously captioned "OOOpps, Bad day at the office. Headed 2 Surgery in a few #PayUpSucker," the first image gives a look at his bloodied finger. Another picture features the chopped off finger along with a cryptic message read, "Doesn't look like this little dude's gonna make it, Nice know'n you little buddy."
