Candice Glover duets with Jennifer Hudson and fellow Top 2 finalist Kree Harrison in the last episode of season 12, which also features performances by Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and PSY.
It's a defining moment for Candice Glover and Kree Harrison in "American Idol" season 12 final results show aired on May 16. Before they and the viewers got to learn the champion, audience was catered with performances from the Top 10 finalists, returning Idols as well as other notable stars in the music industry, including the judges Mariah Carey and Keith Urban.
The Top 10, all dressed in white, opened the show with a cover of The Wanted's "Glad You Came". Janelle Arthur then joined The Band Perry halfway through their performance of "DONE".
In a hilarious skit, season 6 winner Jordin Sparks appeared as a mastermind behind the Top 5 girls' action to sabotage the male finalists. "I'm sorry, guys, it's been five years without a female winner," she said. "I got lonely."
After a medley by the Top 5 guys, Mariah Carey got the spotlight as she sang a medley of all-time hits in a pre-taped segment. Korean singing sensation PSY joined the fiesta, dancing "Gangnam Style" to his new hit "Gentleman". Keith Urban also got his chance to take the stage, singing "A Little Bit of Everything".
Candice then teamed up with J-Hud to cover Natalie Cole's "Inseparable", while third-place finisher Angie Miller sang David Guetta's "Titanium" with Adam Lambert. In a sweet surprise for Angie, her idol Jessie J invited her to perform her original song "You Set Me Free" at Jessie's live concert in U.K.
Kree was backed up by a star-studded band with Keith on guitar, Randy Jackson on bass and Travis Barker on drums when singing "Where the Blacktop Ends". Later, Aretha Franklin gave a shoutout to the final two via satellite from New York City and Ryan Seacrest addressed Randy's departure from the show, saying, "This evening we say, 'Thank you very much and goodbye' to Randy Jackson."
Another highlight was a performance by former judge Jennifer Lopez who sang her new single "Live It Up" with her collaborator Pitbull. Candice and Kree teamed up for a duet of Burt Bacharack's "One Less Bell to Answer" before the final results were revealed.
Having received standing ovations and praises from the judges throughout the season, Candice was declared the winner. "I can't even ... oh my God ... three years," she said, apparently losing for words. She sang her coronation song "I Am Beautiful" through tears.
