The 'Grey's Anatomy' alum will portray the respectable Captain Tom Chandler on the drama about a global pandemic which has just got a series order.
Michael Bay's "The Last Ship" is boarding on TNT. The network has just given a series order to the drama, ordering 10 episodes for the first season which is slated to air in 2014.
Based on William Brinkley's novel of the same name, "The Last Ship" centers on a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world's population. On board for a mission, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James escapes the devastating tragedy, but now has to face the reality of their new existence in a world where they are among the only survivors.
Former "Grey's Anatomy" actor Eric Dane stars as Captain Tom Chandler, the commanding officer of the U.S.S. Nathan James, who is respected and loved by people under his command. Rhona Mitra ("Strike Back") portrays paleomicrobiologist Rachel Scott assigned to the Nathan James to find the cure for the pandemic.
Adam Baldwin ("Firefly", "Chuck") also joins the cast as Slattery, the ship's second-in-command who often clashes with Captain Chandler over the best course of action. Tracy Middendorf ("Boardwalk Empire"), meanwhile, is cast as the Captain's wife, Darien Chandler.
"Transformers" director Bay will produce the show which is dubbed a "smart, fun television that takes you on a great ride," with Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane serving as the executive producers. Steinberg and Kane write the pilot.
To tease viewers, TNT has previewed the new drama in a video, which has a good mix of drama and action.
