Darren Criss Sings Gay Rights Version of 'Call Me Maybe' at GLAAD Media Awards
The 'Glee' actor performs his own version of Carly Rae Jepsen's hit song to sing against DOMA and Prop 8.

Darren Criss, the young actor who plays Blaine on the hit TV series "Glee", performed during Saturday night's 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old thespian took the stage early on in the ceremony to sing about gay rights and call to an end of DOMA and Prop 8, set to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen's viral hit song "Call Me Maybe".

"Guys, I was going to play a very, you know, poignant jazz standard," Criss bagan to say after being introduced by the ever lovable Drew Barrymore, "but then I got a text from my friend Carly Rae Jepsen and she said you have to sing the original lyrics to my song. I was like, 'I don't think that's very appropriate for this event.' And she said, 'No, no, no. The original lyrics are a lot better than what's on the radio now. Just play it.' So, I'm just following her rules here," the actor playfully explained.

After doing his spiel, Criss began his rendition of "Call Me Maybe", changing the lyrics to champion gay marriage in the verses before speaking out directly against DOMA and Prop 8 in the hook. "Hey, hey Supreme Court we say no; Hey, so goodbye DOMA, and so long Prop 8; Send out your invites for the wedding day; So long DOMA, and goodbye Prop 8," he sang.

The 2013 GLAAD Media Awards also honored former U.S. President Bill Clinton with the Advocate for Change Award.
