The cable channel has given a pilot order to 'Open', which is described as a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships.

HBO has nabbed Ryan Murphy's latest work "Open" with put pilot commitment. The sexy drama, which started a bidding war involving multiple networks, is expected to begin casting soon before it starts production in the fall.

"Gary (Newman), Bert (Salke) and I have been looking for the right opportunity to be in business with HBO for awhile, and this show represents the exact right opportunity," said Dana Walden, chairman of 20th Century Fox TV which owns cable division Fox 21, with which Murphy has an overall deal. "Its provocative storytelling and Ryan's trademark production values and rich, layered characters make it a perfect fit for the HBO brand."

Described as a "modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships," the pilot is co-written by "Dexter" co-executive producer Lauren Gussis. Further details about the plot are yet to be available.

"Open" marks Murphy's second project with HBO. He directed "The Normal Heart", a film adaptation of Larry Kramer's celebrated Broadway play, which will premiere on the premium cable channel in 2014. Murphy currently still shepherds FOX's "Glee", FX's "American Horror Story" and NBC's "The New Normal".
