'Jurassic Park IV' Gets 'Safety Not Guaranteed' Helmer as Director

Colin Trevorrow is officially named director for the mega-budget movie, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

AceShowbiz - "Jurassic Park IV" is moving forward with a director being hired for the project. Universal Pictures officially announced on Thursday, March 14 that Colin Trevorrow, best known for helming 2012's indie film "Safety Not Guaranteed", was tapped to take on the directing role for the long-gestating project.

The highly-anticipated fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise will be shot in 3D, with the script written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley produce it, while Steven Spielberg, the man who started the franchise, will serve as executive producer.

No cast is announced for the fourth "Jurassic Park" movie, but the studio has set a June 13, 2014 release date for the film. In the meantime, fans can watch the original movie in 3D starting April 5.

Trevorrow's "Safety Not Guaranteed" got critical acclaims after it debuted at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, leading screenwriter Derek Connolly to win the prestigious Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. It also won Best First Screenplay and Trevorrow was nominated as Best First Feature at this year's Independent Spirit Awards.

"Jurassic Park IV" marks the first mega-budget movie for a major studio for the 36-year-old filmmaker.
