Another Peter Jackson movie passes $1 billion mark. After "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" placed sixth on the all-time list for raking in $1.119 billion in 2003, now "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" garnered more than $1 billion worldwide.

The first installment in Peter Jackson's trilogy adaption of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel has collected $301.1 million domestically and $700 million internationally since it was released on December 14, 2012. The epic fantasy adventure movie becomes the 15th movie to ever cross the mark.

The movie is expected to collect more dollars as it's due to get digital release on March 12. Furthermore, the Blu-ray and DVD of the movie is scheduled to be made available for purchase starting March 19.

Its follow-up "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" is scheduled to start viewing in theaters across the country on December 13 this year. "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" was just delayed from July 18, 2014 to December 17, 2014 to avoid clashing with "X-Men: Days of Future Past".
