Jimi Hendrix's New Posthumous Album Gets Release Date

Entitled 'People, Hell and Angels', the new album will contain 12 previously-unreleased tracks of the legendary guitarist.

An album of unreleased songs by iconic rocker Jimi Hendrix will be released more than four decades after his untimely death from an accidental drug overdose in London in September 1970 at the young age of 27. Entitled "People, Hell and Angels", the new album will contain 12 tracks and will be released in a couple of days on March 5.

The tracks included in the new compilation were actually done by the late Hendrix, as recorded by his sound engineer Eddie Kramer, beginning in 1968 as a follow-up to his "Electric Ladyland" album but were never officially released, until now. A preview of the entire album can now be streamed online.

"When I listen to 'Hear My Train a Comin', it feels almost ghostlike," said Janie Hendrix, Jimi's stepsister and CEO of Experience Hendix, about one of the tracks in the album. "It's so deep south of the universe and filled with the blues. When we transferred the tapes, my heart got so full I started to cry."

The new compilation features the prolific guitarist and his collaborator Stephen Stills performing on "Somewhere" and early Hendrix mentor Lonnie Youngblood on "Let Me Move You". Hendrix also recorded the funky track "Mojo Man" with Ghetto Fighters' twin vocalists, the Aleem brothers. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, his British bass-and-drum collaborators in his "Jimi Hendrix Experience" album also assisted him in the previously-unreleased tracks.
