John McClane Claims Victory on Box Office With 'A Good Day to Die Hard'

The fifth installment of the 'Die Hard' film series opens on the top spot of box office, defeating three other newcomers this week.

AceShowbiz - John McClane shows off his power on North American box office this week with his latest film "A Good Day to Die Hard". Opening to an estimated $25 million, the fifth installment of the Bruce Willis-starring action film franchise successfully tops the chart and knocks down three other newcomers this week.

In addition to its domestic success, "Die Hard 5" claims victory overseas. The movie tops international box office by raking in $61.1 million for a foreign total of $80.1 million. It also collects $113.3 million worldwide.

Last week's winner, "Identity Thief", drops to the runner-up spot with around $23.4 million this week. Falling only 33|percent| from last week, the R-rated comedy starring Melissa McCarthy grabs a total domestic cume of $70.7 million on its second weekend.

Meanwhile, newcomer "Safe Haven" makes it to the third place. Attracting mostly young female audience, the romantic movie starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough collects an estimated $21.4 million on its debut weekend.

Trailing behind "Safe Haven" is animated pic "Escape From Planet Earth" which opens to around $16 million. Rounding up the top five is "Warm Bodies" which adds around $9 million to its $50.2 million total domestic gross after three weeks of playing Stateside.

"Beautiful Creatures", on the other hand, opens to a quite disappointing result this week. Despite the massive buzz, the supernatural romance film only snatches around $7.4 million and opens on the sixth place. It can't best the opening result scored by fellow Young Adult novel adaptation "Warm Bodies" which opened as a champion during the Super Bowl weekend three weeks ago.
