'Game of Thrones' Author Signs Overall Deal With HBO

Under the contract, George R. R. Martin will stay as 'Thrones' executive producer for additional two years and develop new projects for the cable channel.

George R. R. Martin has inked an overall development deal with HBO. With the two-year agreement, the acclaimed author is sealed to continue as "Game of Thrones" executive producer for at least two more years.

The writer will additionally develop and produce new projects for the premium cable channel. His longtime manager Vince Gerardis is attached to his HBO deal.

Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire" has been adapted into TV show "Game of Thrones", which will premiere its third season on March 31. The medieval drama series is a massive hit for HBO, averaging gross audience of more than 10.4 million viewers in its second season.

Martin wrote several episodes of "The Twilight Zone" and the original "Beauty and the Beast" series. "A Dance with Dragons", the fifth book of "A Song of Ice and Fire", was published in July 2011 and won the Locus Poll Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 2012.
