Director Adam McKay announces Wiig's casting in 'Anchorman: The Legend Continues', gushing that he 'couldn't be more excited.'
It's official, Kristen Wiig has joined the cast ensemble of "Anchorman: The Legend Continues". The good news has just been confirmed by director Adam McKay himself who wrote on his Facebook page, "Kristen Wiig is officially on board for Anchorman 2. Couldn't be more excited."
As if it's not enough, McKay also announced the news to his Twitter follower as tweeting, "Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!" Co-star Christina Applegate weighed in on the casting news, "So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."
The "Bridesmaids" star is set to play the wife of Brick Tamland, who is portrayed by Steve Carell. How her character will fit into the plot is still unclear as the script is still being written and no cast beyond the principals has been set.
As the latest addition to the "Anchorman" sequel's cast ensemble, Wiig fits McKay's plan to create "a murderer's row of the best day players ever..." He once gushed that "every single one-line or three-line role [will] just be someone we just love."
"Anchorman 2" is slated for a December 20 release Stateside. In addition to Carell and Applegate, it will bring back Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner.
As for Wiig, the 39-year-old actress was recently seen in indie flick "Imogene". She's recently been busy filming her new films, including "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" which also stars Ben Stiller, and "Hateship Friendship" which also stars Guy Pearce.
