The British drama series takes home best drama ensemble trophy, with Claire Danes and Bryan Cranston claming the best drama actress and actor title respectively.
The Screen Actors Guild honored the best actors and actresses in the last year at its annual awards show held on Sunday, January 27. In TV field, the performance of the "Downton Abbey" cast was acknowledged with best drama ensemble prize, which was also vied by "Boardwalk Empire", "Breaking Bad", "Homeland" and "Mad Men".
Though losing the best drama ensemble award, "Breaking Bad" and "Homeland" didn't come home empty handed as they grabbed one kudo each. The AMC crime drama series had its victorious moment through Bryan Cranston's best drama actor win, while the Showtime thriller show led Claire Danes to claim best drama actress title.
"It is so good to be bad," said Cranston who plays meth manufacturer Walter White on "Breaking Bad" as he accepted his first SAG trophy. He thanked the "very courageous" AMC network, series creator Vince Gilligan and his family. Danes, who described herself as a "brand-Spanxing new mom," hailed her co-stars, including Morena Baccarin who often cooked dinner for both of them.
In comedy, "Modern Family" cast was presented with the best ensemble award. Its rivals included "30 Rock", which managed to take home two prizes, best comedy actor for Alec Baldwin and best comedy actress for Tina Fey.
"It's sad, real sad," Baldwin said of the show's impending end. Fey, meanwhile, gave a shoutout to fellow nominee Amy Poehler, "I've stolen so many of your moves. I've known you since you were pregnant with Lena Dunham." Reminding viewers of the show finale, she pled, "Our finale is on this Thursday at 8 - up against 'The Big Bang Theory', so just tape 'The Big Bang Theory' for once, for crying out loud!"
Julianne Moore of "Game Change" and Kevin Costner and "Hatfields & McCoys" were named best actress and actor in TV Movie or Miniseries respectively. "I had the tremendous good fortune of being on a wonderful acting team," said the Sarah Palin depicter in the HBO movie.
