Following up their collaborations on 'Band of Brothers' and 'The Pacific', Spielberg and Hanks are working on a new miniseries partly based on Donald L. Miller's 'Masters of the Air'.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are working on a new miniseries for HBO. After bringing "Band of Brothers" in 2001 and "The Pacific" in 2010, the Oscar-winning director and the Oscar-winning actor are reuniting for their third World War II project.

The untitled project will use historian Donald L. Miller's nonfiction tome "Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany" as its source material. The upcoming miniseries will focus on the aerial wars through the eyes of enlisted men of the Eighth Air Force, known as the men of the Mighty Eighth.

Spielberg and Hanks will serve as executive producers, joined by Gary Goetzman. The project has been in development for months and is now moving forward as they have acquired the right to "Masters of the Air". Additional source material will be used for the miniseries.

Spielberg and Hanks previously also executive produced ten-part war miniseries "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific". Both shows received critical acclaims, landing several Emmy Awards with the former also winning a Golden Globe for Best miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television.
