Syfy Cancels 'Alphas' After Two Seasons, Stars Tweet Farewell

As the network decides not to renew the sci-fi series for a third season, Warren Christie who played Cameron Hicks writes on her Twitter page, 'Thanks for tuning in the last couple of years!'

Another show has come to an end. A day after Lifetime pulled the plug on "Drop Dead Diva" which has aired four seasons, Syfy announced on Wednesday, January 16 that it canceled "Alphas" after two seasons.

"Syfy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season," the network said in a statement. "We've been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television. We'd like to thank the show's dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support."

Taking the news to Twitter, actor Ryan Cartwright wrote, "Unfortunately #Alphas is cancelled :( " His co-star Warren Christie followed it with his own post which read, "Like my buddy @RyanCartwright has reported, unfortunately #Alphas has been cancelled. Thanks for tuning in the last couple of years!!"

Azita Ghanizada, who portrayed Rachel Pirzad, added, "Sad to say that ALPHAS will not be returning. What an honor to get to play Rachel for 2years & to work w/ & for the MOST AMAZING PEOPLE EVER."

"Alphas" debuted to 2.5 million viewers in July 2011. However, the number of viewership was down significantly when it returned with its second season in summer 2012 (1.7 million viewers). The second season finale, which now becomes the series finale, aired October 22 with just a little more than 1 million viewers tuning into it.
