The addition of Spears failed to bring big number to the show's second season, prompting Cowell to look for new faces.
It looks like Simon Cowell is planning a whole new formation of "The X Factor (US)" judge panel. It has just been reported that Britney Spears will be sacked from her position as one of the judges after only one season.
"Britney will get the boot," an insider told Us Weekly, adding "Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn't working." Cowell initially wanted a "crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney." Producers said Spears has not earned her $15 million contract. "They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps," another source said.
If the report is true, then Cowell will have to look for three new judges. L.A. Reid was the first to announce that he is leaving the talent show to focus on his recording company. The other judge, Demi Lovato, has not officially given a word about her departure but hinted it on Twitter that she won't return next year.
"I'm thankful for this experience I've had on The X Factor USA this year," Lovato wrote last week. "And my fans... You are family. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!! Thank you for watching and supporting me on The X Factor USA."
Cowell famously wiped out the formation of "The X Factor" after first season was critically panned. He let go judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger as well as host Steve Jones in January. Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian replaced Jones.
Spears was one questionable choice that Cowell made since she had a history of meltdown and eccentricities. The British mogul previously defended his choice of Spears, telling reporters that she has been "a lot better than everybody thought."
Nevertheless, the new formation failed to generate much interest with the season 2 finale only absorbing 9.6 million viewers, which is down 18 percent from the first season's finale.
