The CBS sitcom and the Showtime thriller snatch three kudos each, claiming the coveted best comedy series and best drama series respectively.
"The Big Bang Theory" and "Homeland" came home victorious from the 17th annual Satellite Awards. Both shows led the pack of TV winners in comedy and drama field respectively, bagging three gongs apiece.
"Big Bang" edged out such contenders as "Girls", "Modern Family" and "The Big Bang Theory" to claim the best comedy or musical title. It additionally paired the best actor (Johnny Galecki) and best actress (Kaley Cuoco) in comedy awards. For the coveted prize, Galecki defeated his own co-star Jim Parsons which was nominated in the same category.
"Homeland" also brought home the top accolade in drama series, beating out strong competitors namely "Downton Abbey", "Breaking Bad", "The Good Wife" and "Game of Thrones". Meanwhile, lead stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis were once again unbeatable in the acting categories.
"Downton Abbey" and "Game Change", which led the nominations with four each, managed to win one prize each. The former had its star Maggie Smith honored with Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television title, while the latter helped Julianne Moore win Actress in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television kudo.
"Hatfields & McCoys" was named the best Miniseries/Motion Picture Made for Television, while Benedict Cumberbatch of "Sherlock" nabbed the Actor in a Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television award. "The Walking Dead" won the Television Series, Genre award in addition to being honored with Special Achievement Award for Television Ensemble.
The 2012 Satellite Awards announced its winners on Sunday, December 17 evening at the Intercontinental Hotel in Beverly Hills. It also presented prizes for the best in movie, with "Silver Linings Playbook" as the big winner in the feature film field.
