NAACP Image Awards 2013 Nominees in Movie: 'Django Unchained' Vs. 'Flight'

The spaghetti Western film and the pilot drama are competing with 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', 'Red Tails' and 'Good Deeds' for the coveted Best Motion Picture award.

AceShowbiz - Adding the hype to the upcoming awards season, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People announced the nominees for its annual awards event on Tuesday, December 11. In the motion picture categories, Quentin Tarantino's acclaimed slavery era actioner "Django Unchained" was pitted against Robert Zemeckis' pilot drama "Flight".

"Flight" led the pack with a total of five noms, while "Django" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild" trailed behind with four. The two highly-praised movies were also set to compete with critics' darling "Beasts", tuskegee film "Red Tails", and Tyler Perry's romcom "Good Deeds".

"Django" and "Flight" would also face off against each other in Best Actor category where their lead actors, Jamie Foxx and Denzel Washington respectively, got nominated. They were racing for the coveted gong alongside Morgan Freeman, Tyler Perry, and newcomer Indian star Suraj Sharma.

In Best Actress category, meanwhile, "Cloud Atlas" leading lady Halle Berry was set to compete with "Beast" much-talked-about young actress Quvenzhane Wallis. Also up for the prize were Viola Davis, Loretta Devine and Emayatzy Corinealdi.

The 44th Annual NAACP Image Awards was founded in 1909 and became the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States. The awards is aimed at honoring achievements by people of color in film, television, music and literature. Winners of the awards will be revealed during a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 1, 2013.
