AceShowbiz - The nominations for the 44th Annual NAACP Image Awards were announced on Tuesday morning, December 11 in Beverly Hills, California. Grabbing the most nods in TV field is Lifetime's TV movie "Steel Magnolias" with seven.
The remake of a 1989 feature film of the same title vies for the Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special. It grabs four of five spots in Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special category, putting its stars Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott, Phylicia Rashad and Queen Latifah up against one another for the title.
The other two nods it receives are for Outstanding Actor in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special. Getting the honors are Afemo Omilami and Tory Kittles, who will face off Cuba Gooding Jr., Michael Jai White and Rockmond Dunbar.
Trailing behind "Steel Magnolias" are veteran series "Grey's Anatomy" and HBO's drama "Treme" which score four nominations apiece. Both shows are up for Outstanding Drama Series, competing alongside "Boardwalk Empire", "Scandal" and "True Blood".
Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh represent "Grey's" in Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, which also has Khandi Alexander of "Treme", Kerry Washington of "Scandal" and Regina King of "Southland" as the nominees. Battling it out for the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series title, meanwhile, are Dule Hill of "Psych", Hill Harper of "CSI: NY", LL Cool J of "NCIS: Los Angeles", the late Michael Clarke Duncan of "The Finder" and Wendell Pierce of "Treme".
The nominees in Outstanding Comedy Series include "Glee", "Modern Family" and "The Mindy Project". Amber Riley of "Glee" scores a nod in Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, while Anthony Anderson of "Guys with Kids", Damon Wayans Jr. of "Happy Endings ", Don Cheadle of "House of Lies", Donald Faison of "The Exes" and Hosea Chanchez of "The Game" are up for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series title.
The 2013 NAACP Image Awards will air live on February 1, 2013 at 8 P.M. ET on NBC. The event celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors.
