Kelsey Grammer's 'Boss' Canceled After Two Seasons

Starz discontinues the political drama where Grammer stars in the Golden Globe-winning role of Mayor of Chicago.

Kelsey Grammer has not had much luck in his past few series. Starz has announced that they will not move forward with the comedian's new political drama "Boss" after two seasons. However, sources said that the series could be wrapped up with a two-hour movie.

"After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with [a third season of] Boss," Starz said in a statement Tuesday, November 20. "We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, [creator] Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV."

Although the series took in a best drama nomination and a best actor nod for Grammer at Golden Globes this year, it suffered from rating decline. Debuting with 659,000 total viewers in October 2011, "Boss" ended its second season run this October with a season high of 440,000 viewers. However, Starz has shows like "Magic City" that averages higher and new scripted dramas for 2013 slate.

Grammer suffered a similar casualty with his 2009 comedy "Hank", which was canceled by ABC after only nine episodes. However, the 57-year-old actor is already lined-up for a new project titled "Reach Me". As for the "Boss" movie, Starz and "Boss" producer Lionsgate TV are reportedly in negotiations.
