Tom Hanks to Make Broadway Debut in Nora Ephron's 'Lucky Guy'

The late playwright was fascinated by the life of New York Daily News journalist Mike McAlary and chronicled his life in a biodrama play.

Tom Hanks is moving to Broadway. The veteran actor will make his stage debut on Nora Ephron's "Lucky Guy", which is a biodrama about the controversial but colorful life of NY tabloid columnist Mike McAlary in the 1980s.

Tony winner George C. Wolfe will direct the play. He directed the highly-acclaimed Broadway production of "The Normal Heart" last year. Previews of "Lucky Guy" will begin March 1 at the Broadhurst Theatre and a limited engagement for official opening will be held on April 1.

"Lucky Guy" revolves around the up and down of McAlary's career in newspaper journalism. It includes his return to glory when he won Pulitzer for an expose of the New York police torture of Abner Louima in Brooklyn in 1997. The play was written before Ephron died in June this year at the age of 71. Hanks is personally close to Ephron, having starred in her 1993 film "Sleepless in Seattle" and 1998's "You've Got Mail".

Additional cast will be announced.
