Upon announcing the good news, the 'Family Guy' creator unleashes a funny video that features him having an awkward moment with his father who seems to be less enthusiastic with the prestigious gig.

AceShowbiz - It's official, the 85th Annual Academy Awards has found its host. It has been announced that the one who is chosen to tackle the prestigious duty is none other than the "Family Guy" creator, Seth MacFarlane. The high-profile job will also mark the "Ted" helmer's first appearance ever on Oscar's stage.

"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," MacFarlane says upon announcing the big news. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

Oscars telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron are also excited to team up with the 38-year-old Connecticut native. "We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscar," they say in a joint statement. "His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh. He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him."

Meanwhile, AMPAS President Hawk Koch has nothing but good words for the multi-talented actor, "Seth is unbelievably talented." He gushes, "We couldn't be happier with the creative team we've assembled. With Craig, Neil, and now Seth, we're off to a great start."

Aside from releasing an official statement, MacFarlane shares a video to announce the good news. Unleashed via Oscars' official YouTube channel, the funny clip shows the raven-haired funnyman inviting his eccentric father as he breaks the news about his Oscar hosting gig. "Isn't that great? Isn't that.. I'm overwhelmed with excitement," MacFarlane enthuses.

However, MacFarlane's white-haired dad doesn't seem so enthusiastic with the news. Instead, he switches the topic and passes his son his old bathing suits that don't fit him anymore. "I don't really need bathing suit," a confused MacFarlane says, but his dad insists, "No, they're beautiful bathing suits; they're barely used. Here, take 'em. I wore 'em only once and I wore an underwear underneath."

Looking flustered, MacFarlane tells his dad, "I've invited you here today to tell you that I'm hosting the Oscars. That should be huge news to you." The elder MacFarlane replies casually, "Of course it's wonderful news, but also the fact that you're getting almost brand new bathing suits is also good news." He eventually grabs back those suits from his son and says, "Give me those! I'm gonna give these to Billy Crystal!"

The 85th Annual Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood & Highland Center on February 24, 2013. It will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide by the ABC Television Network. Before MacFarlane, it was Jimmy Fallon who was rumored to be eyed for the hosting duty, but the late-night host denied the report by clarifying, "No, I'm not going to do the Oscars."
