In 'The Audience', the Oscar-winning actress is to play Queen Elizabeth II from her young age of 25 to her golden age.

AceShowbiz - Helen Mirren is tackling the role of Queen Elizabeth II in a stage play titled "The Audience". The actress won the 2007 Academy Award for her performance of the British leader in the 2006 film "The Queen".

Written by Peter Morgan who also wrote the screenplay for "The Queen" and "Frost/Nixon", the play imagines private meetings between the queen and a few of her 12 prime ministers during her 60-year reign, from Winston Churchill to David Cameron. Stephen Daldry ("Billy Elliot") is set to direct.

Mirren will portray the Queen from the time she ascended the throne at the age of 25."That'll be a challenge," she told Daily Mail. But she has done some research on the Queen's consistency in terms of "dress to hairstyle to professional attitude - made the age problem not as insurmountable as it might seem." She added, "Her voice has changed, and I can use that - she had a terribly posh voice when she was young."

Preview performance will start on February 15 at the Gielgud Theater while the official performance will be held from March 5 to June 15.
