R.E.M. Tell FOX News to Stop Using 'Losing My Religion'

The rock band, who split last year after 31 years, ask the News Corp.-owned cable news network to stop the use of their music in 'their puff adder brand of reportage'.

Despite retiring, R.E.M. are still keeping track of the use of their songs. Frontman Michael Stipe has sent FOX News a cease and desist letter to stop using the group's 1991 hit "Losing My Religion" for their news coverage of the Democratic National Convention.

Via their publisher, the group posted on their website, "R.E.M.'s 'Losing My Religion' was used in the Fox News coverage of the Democratic National Convention last night. R.E.M. today, through its music publisher, Warner-Tamerlane Music, demanded that Fox News cease and desist from continuing its unlicensed and unauthorized use of the song."

Stipe added in a statement, "We have little or no respect for their puff adder brand of reportage. Our music does not belong there."

The use of music in election season has met some obstruction lately. The Silversun Pickups sent Republican candidate for president Mitt Romney a cease and desist letter for the use of "Panic Switch" in his campaign. Twisted Sister's Dee Snider also did similarly in the GOP campaign.
