CBS Orders Pilot to Eddie Murphy's 'Beverly Hills Cop' TV Project

Murphy teams up with Shawn Ryan for the TV adaptation of the 1984 action comedy movie that will follow Axel's police officer son as he fights crimes while trying to escape his father's shadow.

"Beverly Hills Cop" is heading to small screen via CBS. After being pitched to four major broadcast networks, the TV project lands on the Eye which has given a pilot production commitment to the potential series from Eddie Murphy and "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan.

Serving as "a continuation of the iconic 'Beverly Hills Cop' universe," it centers on Axel Foley's blue-collar police officer son Aaron who works to "take down the criminal elements of the rich and famous, while simultaneously trying to escape the shadow of his larger than life father." Murphy, who starred as Axel in the three films, will reprise his role in the pilot and may recur if CBS picks it up to series.

The potential series has been described as "a buddy cop show" and will be an hour-long crime procedural with comedic elements. Ryan will write the script and team up with Murphy as well as his MiddKid Productions partner Marney Hochman to executive produce it.

The project marks Ryan's return to CBS after he served as a showrunner for "The Unit", which ran from 2006 to 2009. He was set to executive produce "Confessions of a Contractor", a pilot based on Richard Murphy's book of the same name, for the network, but the project never saw the light of day due to casting contingency issues.
