AceShowbiz - A few days before it opens in cinemas Stateside, "Sparkle" threw its premiere in New York on Tuesday night, August 14. Held at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, the special screening event was attended by the motown drama's beautiful leading actresses Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter and Carmen Ejogo.

Jordin stole the limelight with her gorgeous look in a skin-tight mini red dress. Showing off her slim figure, the "American Idol" alum finished off her look with matching daring red heels and diamond jewelries. She also looked fresh with her black-and-red ombre locks.

The "No Air" singer brought along her mother Jodi Wiedemann to the premiere event. Balancing her daughter's stylish look, Jodi rocked a cleavage-baring turquoise dress and teamed it up with a pair of nude-colored peep-toe heels.

While Jordin and her mom opted to go with simple-but-chic looks, Tika went glamorous in a floor-length golden dress while letting her silky straight hair loose. On the other hand, Carmen dazzled in a midi black dress that she paired with matching pumps and simple do.

Celebrity guests spotted that night included "True Blood" star Rutina Wesley who sported braided hair to team her boyish look, Oscar nominee Gabourey Sidibe who donned a purple dress with animal-print shoes, and "Detachment" actress Sami Gayle who looked girlie in a floral bustier dress.

A remake of the 1976 music-themed film of the same title, "Sparkle" was inspired by the story of The Supremes. It follows the journey of the three Williams sisters, who begin singing in Harlem in the late 1950 before finding fame as a girl group. Their sudden rise, however, unravels their personal lives.

The movie has been generating people's attention since it marks Whitney Houston's last movie before she passed away last February. In the upcoming movie, the "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" hitmaker will appear as a "not-so encouraging mother" to Jordin's titular character.

"Sparkle" will grace theaters nationwide on August 17.
