The head writer of 'Saturday Night Live' is said to be joined by Michael Strahan and Josh Groban on the shortlist of possible successor to Regis Philbin.
After months of search, "Live! with Kelly" might be close to find Regis Philbin's replacement. Words are, Seth Meyers who has guest hosted the ABC talk show is the top candidate to sit next to Kelly Ripa as a permanent co-host.
According to Showbiz 411, the shortlist has been narrowed down to three names with the "Saturday Night Live" head writer as the frontrunner. The other two contenders are former NFL player Michael Strahan and singer Josh Groban, who both have also tasted the co-host seat next to Ripa.
The site further reports that Meyers "has the widest appeal, background and strengths," although Strahan is also a strong contender. Should the 38-year-old actor/comedian land the permanent co-hosting gig, he might still co-anchor "Weekend Update" on "SNL" but need to step down as the variety show's head writer.
"Live! with Kelly" has been featuring a series of guest co-hosts following Regis Philbin's exit. Some notable stars who were tapped to accompany Kelly Ripa included Jerry Seinfeld, Neil Patrick Harris, Kevin Jonas, Michael Buble and Kim Kardashian.
