Gossip's Beth Ditto Helps Open 2012 Cannes Film Festival With Live Performance

The frontwoman of Gossip plays her rendition of Elton John's classic 'Candle in the Wind' before the star-studded crowd and the juries which include Diane Kruger and Ewan McGregor.

AceShowbiz - Beth Ditto lent a helping hand during the opening ceremony of the 65th Annual Cannes Film festival in France. The singer of indie rock band Gossip helped open the movie festival by making a live performance before the star-studded crowd.

Wearing a ruched cream dress and a pair of kitten heels, Ditto belted out Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" with a backdrop of Marilyn Monroe's giant images. "This is the fanciest prom I've ever been to, thank you for having me here Cannes," she said. "It's a tough crowd."

Sitting on the jury panel was Nanni Moretti, Diane Kruger, Ewan McGregor, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Hiam Abbass, Andrea Arnold and Raoul Peck. Serving as a host was "The Artist" star Berenice Bejo who looked gorgeous in a Louis Vuitton red gown.

Wes Anderson-directed thriller "Moonrise Kingdom" was screened at the opening ceremony. Earlier in the day, the juries joined the likes of Eva Longoria, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton, Freida Pinto, Lana Del Rey, Jane Fonda, Chris Pine for red-carpet appearances outside the venue.
