On the day "Snow White and the Huntsman" was premiered in London, Florence and the Machine debuted a music video for "Breath of Life", a song recorded for the movie. A number of scenes, featuring Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Charlize Theron as Queen Ravenna, are flashed in between footage of Florence Welch's studio session.

Featuring intense melodies with "big, clattering drums," the song was recorded at the famed Abbey Road with a big number of choir members. Instead of looking up to the protagonist Snow White, Florence took inspiration from the Evil Queen. "The Queen is just this incredible character; so hungry for life but so dead inside. She's sort of eternal, but inside there's nothing. She's kind of like charcoal or something," she told MTV.

The lead singer was particularly fond of a scene where the Queen was "kind of picking out birds' hearts and eating them." The lead singer gushed, "[She has] this thirst for youth and for life, but for what kind of life? This darkness, but she's so beautiful, so it's this kind of juxtaposition between beauty and, ultimately, death."
