Ben Affleck Makes Fake Movie to Save Hostage in First 'Argo' Trailer

Affleck's Tony Mendez is a CIA agent who offers a risky idea to create a fake sci-fi movie as a plan to release six Americans who were taken hostage during the Iranian revolution.

Ben Affleck's latest directorial stint, "Argo", has unleashed its very first trailer. The gritty promo centers on Affleck who offers a crazy idea to make a fake Hollywood movie as a strategy to save the life of some Americans in Iran.

Affleck portrays Tony Mendez, a CIA "exfiltration" specialist who came up with a risky plan to get six U.S. diplomats safety out of Iran. The six Americans were taken hostage by militans during the climax of Iranian revolution in Tehran on November 4, 1979.

"Argo" marks the third directorial feature from Affleck after "Gone Baby Gone" and "The Town". In addition to working behind the lens, the husband of Jennifer Garner produces the drama along with George Clooney, Grant Heslov and David Klawans.

Chris Terrio provides the screenplay, which is based on the 2007 Wired article called "How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi to Rescue Americans From Tehran" by Joshuah Bearman. The political film itself is slated for an October 12 release in the United States.
