HBO's New Comedies 'Veep' and 'Girls' Get Second Season Orders


The Julia Louis-Dreyfus-starring show and the Lena Dunham-created series get renewals following strong ratings and critical approval.

HBO's freshman series, "Veep" and "Girls", have received a vote of confidence from the network. After debuting last month, the two comedy series have secured new season orders which will bring them back for a second season consisting of ten episodes each.

Premiering April 21, "Veep" opened to 1.4 million viewers during its inaugural 10 P.M. ET broadcast and has since averaged 3.7 million total weekly viewers. The show stars Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a disenfranchised vice president of the United States.

As for "Girls", it had a soft debut with 872,000 viewers on April 14, but has since grossed 3.8 million total weekly viewers. Created by and starring Lena Dunham, the show follows an aspiring writer in her 20's trying to navigate her personal and professional life in New York City.
