'American Horror Story' to Race as Best Miniseries at 2012 Emmys

By joining the competition in the Miniseries and Made for TV Movies prize, the FX horror show will avoid a tough competition with the likes of 'Mad Men', 'Breaking Bad' and 'Homeland'.

"American Horror Story" is going to enter the race for the Miniseries and Made for TV Movies kudo at this year's Primetime Emmy Awards. FX has announced that it will be submitting the Ryan Murphy-created show in the said category instead of the drama category, attributing the shake-up to the series' anthology format.

As an anthology, "AHS" is designed to feature new cast and stories each season. "The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards Committee and Board of Governors has determined that 'American Horror Story' has dual status qualification in the Drama Series category and Miniseries category for the Emmy Awards," FX spokesman John Solberg explained.

With the move, "AHS" is taking itself out of a stiff competition which will likely involve "Mad Men", "Breaking Bad, "Boardwalk Empire" and "Homeland". "Downton Abbey" will make the race even tougher by switching from Miniseries or Movie to Drama Series category at the upcoming annual event.
