The 'Better Than I Know Myself' singer tweets, 'I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert!'
It's official, Adam Lambert will sing with Queen next summer. The former contestant of "American Idol" season 8 is set to share the stage with the British rock band at upcoming Sonisphere festival at Knebworth.
"As many suspected, I can finally confirm: I have been invited by Queen to sing one very special concert!" Lambert shares the news to his Twitter followers. The Grammy-nominated singer excitedly adds, "Sonisphere at Knebworth July 7th!"
Rumor about the gig actually surfaced in early February this year. He played down the rumor back then by tweeting, "I haven't confirmed any guest appearances. That being said, I'm truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions mr journalist!!"
Now that the gig is confirmed, Lambert sets the record straight on his denial, "Sorry to be coy about the details the past few weeks, but I made a promise to keep it under wraps as best I could." He then enthused, "Gonna be a surreal night!"
Brian May said in a statement, "Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It's a worthy challenge for us, and I'm sure Adam would meet with Freddie's approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush."
Lambert chimed in, "I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. I'm honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory. He's a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band."
"I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band I know magic will be on display."
