Stephen Colbert Expected to Address His Absence on Monday's Return

After going on a sudden hiatus since Thursday, February 16, Comedy Central's satirical news show 'The Colbert Report' will be back on air February 20.

Stephen Colbert will not let his fans crave for his satirical jokes for too long. After abruptly suspending "The Colbert Report" production last week, the 47-year-old comedian will resume taping for the show on Monday, February 20, so his representative said.

Colbert is expected to explain his absence during the Monday episode, which will feature novelist Ann Patchett as a guest. When announcing the production cancellation on Thursday, February 18, the show only mentioned "unforeseen circumstances" as the reason for the move.

Speculations later began to surface that the "Colbert Report" host halted the show production because his mother's seriously ill. While he did not confirm nor deny the rumors, Colbert recently wrote on his Twitter page, "My family and I would like to thank everyone who has offered their thoughts and prayers. We are grateful and touched by your concern."

Comedy Central, meanwhile, remains mum on the issue. "We are not commenting on any speculation about the nature of the cancellations last week," the network's spokesman Steve Albini stated.
