2012 Producers Guild Awards Nominations in Movie: 'Bridesmaids', 'Dragon Tattoo', 'Artist'

Aside from 'Bridesmaids', 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and 'The Artist', well reviewed films like 'Hugo', 'War Horse' and 'Midnight in Paris' are competing to win the coveted Best Pictures award.

The nominations for the 2012 Producers Guild Awards have been announced on Tuesday, January 3. Among the ten qualified movies that will compete against each other to win the top prize of "Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award for Theatrical Motion Pictures" are "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)", "Bridesmaids" and "The Artist".

Also up for the Best Picture are Martin Scorsese's "Hugo", Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris", Steven Spielberg's "War Horse", and Tate Taylor's "The Help". Other well reviewed films, including "The Tree of Life", "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" and "Drive", didn't receive any nominations at the awards.

Best Animated Film sees Spielberg and Peter Jackson's "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn", and Gore Verbinski and Graham King's "Rango" among its nominees. Meanwhile, "Project Nim" and "Senna" are among the contenders for Best Documentary.

This year, the Producers Guild will also present special honors to Leslie Moonves (Milestone Award), Steven Spielberg (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures), Stan Lee (Vanguard Award) and Angelina Jolie's directorial debut "In the Land of Blood and Honey" (The Stanley Kramer Award).

The Producers Guild Awards is one of the most reliable barometers for the Academy Awards in the past years. However, recent changes in the Oscar rules could affect the reliability this year. Aside from the movie nominees, PGAs has announced the nominees in TV field, which include "Boardwalk Empire", "Modern Family" and "Game of Thrones". Winners of the 2012 PGAs will be revealed during a ceremony on Saturday, January 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
