A day after he was spotted going ringless in London, the 'Arthur' star files legal documents to end his 14 months of marriage to the 'Teenage Dream' singer, citing 'irreconcilable differences'.
Swirling rumors that Russell Brand and Katy Perry's marriage is on the rocks turn out to be true after all. Just a day after he was photographed stepping out in London without his wedding ring on, the "Get Him to the Greek" star filed for a divorce from his wife of 14 months.
36-year-old Brand submitted the legal papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, December 30. He cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split, but didn't list a date of separation. The comedian also asked that each party pay their own attorney fees and that their property rights be determined.
Brand himself has since released a statement to the press regarding his break-up from Perry. "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," the actor who stars opposite Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages" said. He added, "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends." His wife Perry, in the meantime, remains quiet.
Brand and Perry began dating in 2009. Four months later on New Year's Eve, the "Arthur" star proposed to the "Firework" hitmaker. They made it official by exchanging vows in a lavish ceremony at a luxury resort in northern India in October 2010, and had since being plagued with split rumors.
The most recent buzz about their break-up sparked when it was unraveled that the pair spent Christmas 3,000 miles apart. Brand was spotted in South West England, while Perry was seen soaking up the sun in Hawaii. It was later reported that Perry canceled plans to visit Brand's London hometown for the holidays after the two had a massive fight.
