The behind-the-scene footage from 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' gives a look at the logistics of location shootings and the shooting process on the set of Hobbiton in New Zealand.

AceShowbiz - Peter Jackson has just given a special Christmas treat to fans of the "Hobbit". Taking to his official Facebook page, the Oscar-winning director posted a brand new production video for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", unleashing a look at how he and his crew move the whole production unit from the studio to an open field to recreate Middle Earth.

The 12-minute video also provides footage of the Hobbiton village, where plenty of extras dressing in Hobbit costumes are around. At one point, Elijah Wood shares his thought about returning to the set 11 years after filming "The Lord of the Rings". There's also a glimpse of Andy Serkis who is performing his duty as the second-unit director.

"The Hobbit" focuses on the adventure of Bilbo Baggins as he is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, he finds himself joining a company of dwarves led by Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapesshifters and Sorcerers.

Martin Freeman tackles the part of Bilbo, while Richard Armitage plays warrior Thorin. Joining them in the cast ensemble are Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans among others. The movie is due to open in the U.S. theaters on December 14, 2012, while its follow-up "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" will be released nationwide on December 13, 2013.
