"The Munsters" is one step closer to get revived on the small screen. A few months after it was reported that NBC gave another shot at a remake of the classic comedy series, the network has now given a greenlight to the project by picking up the pilot.

"Pushing Daisies" creator Bryan Fuller will write and executive produce the reboot project. Commenting on the pilot order, he says, "I am over the moon Eddie Munster will soon be howling at."

The new "Munsters" show is said to be edgier and slightly darker than the original 1960s series starring Fred Gwynne and Yvonne De Carlo among others. The upcoming project is also promised to present an "imaginative reinvention of 'The Munsters' as a visually spectacular one hour drama."

Fuller and NBC first attempted to remake "The Munsters" in 2010, but the network ultimately passed on the script. NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, however, liked the general idea and asked Fuller to work on it again.

"The Munsters" is not the only project Fuller is currently developing for NBC. The Peacock has recently bought "Hannibal", which is based on the serial killer character in Thomas Harris' bestselling novels, from the "Heroes" writter.
