Jessica Chastain will be one of Tom Cruise's love interests in an untitled science fiction project which is developed by Universal Pictures. According to Variety, the actress who plays Celia Foote in "The Help" has defeated other stars, including Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling and Noomi Rapace, who were also tested for the part.

There are actually two female leads needed for the project. One of them will play Cruise's wife and the other one will portray his mysterious lover. However, it is still not clear which role the "Wilde Salome" star has secured.

The untitled project was previously known as "Oblivion" and "Horizons". The story is set in the future where the Earth's surface has been irradiated beyond recognition and the remants of humanity above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. A repairman named Jak must face an unstoppable chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows, after he found a mysterious lady in a crash-landed pod.

"Tron Legacy" helmer Joseph Kosinski takes on the directorial duty for the project, with William Monahan and Karl Gajdusek penning the script. The production is expected to begin this winter and Universal has locked July 19, 2013 for its release date.
